The Strength Training Mindset

Strength is the foundational quality for daily movement and function and underpins most sporting and athletic performance. Wthout this foundation everything feels harder. If in doubt with your training remember - be strong, first. Now what exactly does this mean when it comes to training? Well absolute strength by definition is the maximal force or contraction that you can make in one go. But not all of us are looking for strong-man style goals I imagine!

Quick tips for training strength: To create more strength you need more tension, to do this we must learn to squeeze and lift heavy, 1-6 reps at about 80% of your max will improve your maximal strength. The lighter you go and the more endless reps you create the lesser the impact, the body needs the stimulus for change. This will improve your tendons, ligaments, muscles and confidence!

How Important Is Positive Thinking?

I always encourage clients to adopt a positive mindset when approaching their training. Believing in your ability to do something, improve and overcome challenges is crucial for long-term success. Positive thinking can enhance motivation and resilience. If you have days you feel bad, no worries, focus on what you can improve, think about the minimal effective dose.

Setting Attention To Your Intention

Setting clear intentions for your training sessions can help focus your efforts and energy. I work wth you to set goals, have intentions and focus. In a world of instant gratification it can feel like every week you need a change, maybe even every session! But it's not true. It is the biggest reason that year-on-year people 'go to the gym' but still see no change - they don't have focus.

Embracing Challenges

Strength training will present challenges, but embracing them is part of the process. I will coach you through the harder movements and weeks in your training, because these are the time that feel like everything is falling apart but in reality it is a drop in the ocean of your total training, whether you have illness, injury, holiday or just a rubbish day w always look at how to move our average up over time. This teaches you to view obstacles as opportunities for growth, fostering a mindset that thrives on improvement.
